Uthando ( A zulu word meaning "Love")  is an inspiring showcase of the brilliant craftsmanship and innovation of South African community members that live and work in impoverished communities. All of our wedding products are lovingly hand crafted just for you.

Uthando's wedding favours, gifts, wedding décor and wedding table decorations are exactly that, they are handmade with love, for you to personalise with your message of gratitude and love.

The Uthando Community comprises unemployed hand crafters who hail from Langa, Imizamo Yethu, Gugulethu and Hout Bay in Cape Town and steadily growing into other impoverished areas of South Africa.

Uthando is an initiative started by an ex-Director of the Sowetan Newspaper’s “Nation Building” whose patron was the Honourable Nelson Mandela.

Her primary objective is to assist community crafters to utilise their skills to “up-style” their products and fine-tune their skills going from “street market” to “upmarket”.

"Whilst we are up-styling we are also upskilling. Street beader’s attend workshops where they learn various beading techniques from skilled "professionals"

This enables street beaders to manufacture beautiful costume jewellery pieces, bridal accessories and table décor items.

Wood, tin and wire crafters are taught how to create finer, delicate wedding table décor products and the importance of collaborating with one other to create, innovate more stylish products, by combining their skills, crafts and talents into one product - a combined, unified, collaboration for the benefit of all.

Uthando aims to fulfil the dream of many a street vendor, “To rise out of poverty”. Our “big dream” is to assit these craftsmen in turning their lives around by giving them an opportunity to earn and learn, whilst paying them a fair and honest price for their skills, products and craftmanship - to meet their big ambition of
